RealSoft Accomplishes the Largest Population Census Project in the Region in Record Time
The Commission of Statistics and GIS has announced the completion of the third and final phase of the General Census of Population and Housing for 2024. This national achievement represents a milestone in the history of digital census-taking in Iraq and the region. It is considered the largest project of its kind, involving the participation of more than 135,000 field researchers and implemented in record time—just under eight months—despite the scale of challenges and tight timeframes.
RealSof Advanced Applications, the primary technical partner of the project, played a pivotal role in achieving this milestone by providing innovative technological and statistical solutions. These solutions helped manage the complex field operations and overcome the obstacles accompanying this unprecedented census. The company also contributed to the design and implementation of digital tools required for data collection and analysis, including specialized platforms such as “Al-Khwarizmi,” “Falcon Map,” and “Data Portal,” which proved effective at various stages of the project. Furthermore, the project included collaboration with Blackhole Networks for Security Solutions, which provided an integrated system to ensure data protection and the secure flow of information throughout all phases of the census.
It is worth noting that the actual enumeration process took place in two main phases. The first was a preparatory visit from November 16 to November 19, during which preliminary data was collected. This was followed by a confirmatory visit conducted during curfew days from November 20 to November 22, enhancing data accuracy and ensuring comprehensive coverage of all areas. During this stage, the preliminary results of the census were announced, including the number of housing units and population, representing a pivotal step in analyzing and utilizing the data to support developmental policies.
The final phase of the project involved the actual enumeration and the collection of detailed data on demographic, social, and economic characteristics. This phase presented the greatest challenge but was successfully completed with precision and efficiency. Despite the critical timing, the Commission of Statistics confirmed that the fieldwork was completed successfully thanks to joint cooperation between its teams and RealSoft experts, who demonstrated exceptional commitment to providing technical and operational support throughout the project stages. RealSoft’s role extended beyond technical solutions, encompassing training, capacity building, and process development, which enhanced the accuracy and speed of the project’s implementation.
Dr. Diaa Awad Kazem, Head of the Commission of Statistics, emphasized in his speech on this occasion that the success in implementing this national project is the result of collective effort and fruitful collaboration among all participating parties. The 2024 census represents a historic step in building a comprehensive national database to support Iraq’s future development plans. Its success reflects a collective commitment to a path of technological and statistical advancement, positioning Iraq at the forefront of nations striving to achieve sustainable development.
